Entering the Pousada an English lady exclaimed “This Place has Character!” That describes this Vintage Hostelry quite Aptly. Located off a Bye Lane, 50 meters from the Panjim Inn, the Pousada is Certainly the Quieter of the Two and after the Buzz of the Busy Street Outside, the Inside is a Relative Oasis of Tranquility. A Certain Dignified Serenity and Peace seems to Prevail.
 

Not quite as Old as the Panjim Inn, the Pousada has the Distinction of being one of the Few Hindu Houses in a Predominantly Catholic Neighborhood. This Fine Old Mansion, Initially Rebuilt in the 1930’s was the Ancestral Home of the Well-to-do Ghanekar Family. It was here that the Ghanekar Clan would Gather on Festive Occasions like Weddings and the Annual Ganesh Festival which is Special to the Goan Hindu.
 

The Central “Chowk” with its “Tulus” where the Ladies of the Household Performed their Morning Prayers and “Arti” and the Auspicious Tulsi Plant has been Nurtured with Love to Bring out the Typical Ambience of a Gentile Hindu Home of Yesteryears. So also have the 9 bedrooms which Adjunct the “Chowk”. These are a Mix of Old World Charm and Modernity. Antique Cupboards, Sturdy Colonial Double Beds and Old Lamps Combine with Modern Plumbing, Fans and Air Conditioning. Simple IPS Cement Flooring in Conventional Red Oxide and a Marble mosaic in the Open Areas Render a Harmonious Blend with the Overall Aesthetics.

Adjacent to a Vintage First Floor Verandah are two Bread Fruit shoots, remnants of a majestic Bread Fruit tree reach for the sky and one day will hopefully emulate its parent.
