South Goa has an innate charm and scenic beauty that draws tourists who
like peace and quiet. Here too, there are a few watering holes that keep
the quintessential tourist happy with local fare and live music. Fiplees
at Benaulim, Martin's Corner at Betalbatim, Chef Fernando's Nostalgia at
Raia, Betty's Place at Cavelossim, Mickey's and Kentucky at Colva are
known for the cuisine and music. Martin's Corner is probably the most
famous because it is cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's favourite spot. There
are places for gourmets like Skie Grille at Utorda, set in front of an
ancient Portuguese house, with a chapel forming a backdrop. For bright
lights and boogieing, head to Behind Bars at Clarion or Club Utopia at
Margao where most of the locals shake a leg. Zeebop's Shack at Utorda
Beach is also a perfect setting for some Tequila Sunrise as the cuisine
and music transport you to paradise. Gatsby, a discotheque at Colva, has
a small-town feel and some great music. A new nightclub called Venom is
also an option. Fuitado's at Serna Batim and Pedro's at Benaulim give
you an authentic local flavour.
At Bogmalo, near Vasco, Joet's is the only place that is known for its
music, especially on Fridays. The karaoke fever is infectious and while
the waves dance, many locals and tourists gather for an evening out.
Most of these restaurants have multi-cuisine, live bands, great music,
the best Goan food and seafood that money can buy. Almost all these
places are economical, though the discotheques might be a bit too steep.
